[Tar sands](//muut.com/u/tensquaremiles/s1/:tensquaremiles:v4h1:tarsands.jpg.jpg) Influenced largely by Home, this film about the tar sands of Alberta Canada explores and exudes the harsh environment that is being destroyed at an alarming and costly rate. It has a commentary that is largely presumptuous and is done in a way that suggests more than meets the eye. Really eye opening stuff that isn't as touched upon as any of the oil related impacts.

I also saw this film in my seminar last year. It shows aerial views of all of these oil refineries as well as the tar sands and the strip mines that are extracting all of the bitumen. Our class later found a video produced by the oil company trying to show how the tar sands were not destroying the land and how these people were "reclaiming" it. In all of their shots of the refineries, they had no smoke coming out of the stacks, except in on interview shot where you could see the refinery over the subjects shoulder, with smoke billowing out of its stacks.
